It’s changed dramatically in 50 years
7am and still virtually dark on a freezing foggy November morning in Fuxin, China. SY Class No 1378 is ready with a loaded train of coal.
As the sun sets behind the Wasatch Mountains, the constant battle against gravity continues as a train struggles up the 2.4% grade to the summit. Even with four big units up front and a DPU at the rear, this short train is barely making 15mph.
Following the Columbia River east out Portland, this manifest leaves the day behind.
